Publishing Ethics Statement

The Afro-Asian Journal of Law and Governance (AJLG) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of publication ethics and academic integrity. The journal follows established principles of responsible scholarly publishing and expects all authors, reviewers, editors and other participants in the publication process to uphold these standards.

1. Responsibilities of Authors

Authors must ensure that submitted manuscripts are original and have not been published elsewhere or submitted simultaneously to another journal.

Authors are responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of their research, including the proper presentation of data, references and sources. All sources and contributions from other works must be appropriately acknowledged and cited.

Authors must disclose any relevant conflicts of interest and obtain appropriate ethical approval where research involves human participants, confidential information or other sensitive materials.

2. Plagiarism and Research Misconduct

AJLG does not tolerate plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, duplicate publication, data manipulation or other forms of academic misconduct.

Submitted manuscripts may be screened for plagiarism and other forms of inappropriate content. Where misconduct is suspected or confirmed, the journal may take appropriate action, including rejection, withdrawal or retraction of the affected work.

3. Responsibilities of Reviewers

Reviewers must evaluate manuscripts objectively, fairly and confidentially. Reviews should be based on the scholarly quality, originality, relevance and methodological soundness of the manuscript.

Reviewers must disclose any potential conflict of interest and should not use unpublished information obtained through peer review for personal advantage.

4. Responsibilities of Editors

Editors are responsible for ensuring that manuscripts are evaluated fairly and independently. Editorial decisions should be based on the quality, originality, relevance and scholarly contribution of the manuscript.

Editors must maintain confidentiality throughout the editorial and peer-review process and must not use unpublished information for personal or professional advantage.

5. Conflicts of Interest

Authors, reviewers and editors must disclose any financial, professional, personal or other relationships that could influence the publication or review process.

Where a significant conflict of interest exists, the concerned individual may be excluded from the relevant editorial or review process.

6. Corrections and Retractions

AJLG is committed to maintaining an accurate scholarly record. Where significant errors are identified after publication, the journal may publish corrections, errata or corrigenda.

Where published research is found to contain serious errors, plagiarism, fabrication, falsification or other forms of misconduct, the journal may retract the article in accordance with accepted scholarly publishing practices.

7. Generative Artificial Intelligence

Authors may use generative artificial intelligence tools for appropriate purposes such as language improvement, grammar correction and limited editorial assistance. AI tools must not be listed as authors.

Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, integrity and ethical compliance of their submitted manuscripts. Where AI has been used substantially in preparing a manuscript, appropriate disclosure should be provided.

8. Commitment to Academic Integrity

AJLG is committed to promoting transparency, fairness, accountability and integrity in scholarly publishing. The journal expects all participants in the publication process to act professionally and ethically and reserves the right to take appropriate action whenever violations of these principles are identified.
