Publication Policy

PUBLICATION POLICY

The International Journal of Biomedical Image Intelligence (IJBII) is committed to publishing original, rigorous and ethically conducted research in biomedical imaging, artificial intelligence, machine learning, computer vision and intelligent healthcare technologies.

Scope of Publication

IJBII considers scholarly works that fall within the journal's aims and scope, including:

  • Original Research Articles
  • Review Articles
  • Short Communications
  • Technical Notes
  • Clinical Applications and Case Reports
  • Editorials and invited scholarly contributions

All submissions must demonstrate clear relevance to biomedical imaging, medical image analysis, computational intelligence or related healthcare applications.

Originality and Prior Publication

Submitted manuscripts must:

  • Be original.
  • Not have been previously published in substantially the same form.
  • Not be under simultaneous consideration by another journal.
  • Properly acknowledge and cite relevant prior work.
  • Disclose any closely related manuscripts, preprints or previous dissemination where relevant.

Submission of duplicate, redundant or substantially overlapping publication may result in rejection or further action in accordance with the journal's publication ethics policies.

Editorial Assessment

All submissions undergo an initial editorial assessment before external peer review.

The editorial team may decline manuscripts that:

  • Fall outside the journal's scope.
  • Do not meet minimum scientific or scholarly standards.
  • Lack sufficient originality or contribution.
  • Do not comply with submission requirements.
  • Raise significant ethical, integrity or authorship concerns.

Passing the initial editorial assessment does not guarantee acceptance.

Peer Review

Manuscripts considered suitable for further evaluation are processed through the journal's double-anonymous peer-review system.

Editorial decisions are based on scientific quality, methodological rigour, originality, relevance, ethical compliance and the assessments provided by qualified reviewers.

The final decision remains the responsibility of the Editor-in-Chief or designated responsible editor.

Research and Publication Ethics

Authors are responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable ethical, legal and professional requirements.

Where relevant, manuscripts should include appropriate information concerning:

  • Ethical approval
  • Informed consent
  • Patient privacy and confidentiality
  • Animal research approval
  • Competing interests
  • Funding
  • Data availability
  • Author contributions
  • Use of generative artificial intelligence
  • Permissions for third-party copyrighted material

Research misconduct, fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, inappropriate image manipulation, authorship abuse or other serious breaches of research integrity are not acceptable.

Data and Image Integrity

Authors are responsible for the accuracy and integrity of all data, biomedical images, figures, tables and analyses presented in their work.

Images must not be manipulated in a way that misrepresents the underlying scientific information.

For computational and AI-based studies, authors should provide sufficient methodological information to support appropriate evaluation, validation and reproducibility.

Revisions and Acceptance

Authors may be required to revise manuscripts in response to editorial or reviewer comments.

A request for revision does not constitute acceptance.

A manuscript is considered accepted only after the editorial process has been completed and an official acceptance decision has been issued through the journal's submission system.

Production and Publication

Accepted manuscripts proceed through the journal's copyediting, production and publication workflow.

Authors may be asked to review proofs and correct production-related errors before final publication.

Substantive changes to accepted scientific content may require editorial approval.

Corrections, Retractions and Post-Publication Issues

IJBII is committed to maintaining the integrity of the scholarly record.

Where significant errors, ethical concerns or research-integrity issues are identified after publication, the journal may issue:

  • Corrections
  • Editorial notices
  • Expressions of concern
  • Retractions
  • Other appropriate post-publication notices

Actions will be determined according to the nature and seriousness of the issue.

Copyright and Licensing

Authors retain copyright in their published work.

Articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0), subject to the journal's Copyright and Licensing Policy.

Editorial Independence

Editorial decisions are made on the basis of scholarly merit, scientific quality, ethical compliance and relevance to the journal.

Commercial, personal, institutional or other inappropriate influences must not determine editorial decisions.
