Authors' Guidelines

The International Journal of Biomedical Image Intelligence (IJBII) welcomes original, high-quality scholarly contributions in biomedical imaging, artificial intelligence, machine learning, computer vision, medical image analysis, biomedical informatics, radiomics, digital pathology, and related intelligent healthcare technologies.

1. General Requirements

Authors should ensure that manuscripts are:

  • Original and not previously published.
  • Not simultaneously under consideration by another journal.
  • Clearly written, logically organized, and scientifically rigorous.
  • Supported by appropriate and current scholarly references.
  • Prepared in accordance with accepted academic, ethical, and research-integrity standards.
  • Anonymized for double-anonymous peer review. Author names, affiliations, acknowledgements, and other identifying information should not appear in the review manuscript.

2. Article Types

IJBII considers submissions including:

  • Original Research Articles
  • Review Articles
  • Short Communications
  • Technical Notes
  • Clinical Applications and Case Reports
  • Editorials

3. Manuscript Structure

Original research manuscripts should normally include:

  • Title
  • Abstract
  • Keywords
  • Introduction
  • Materials and Methods
  • Results
  • Discussion
  • Conclusion
  • Declarations
  • References

Author names, affiliations, ORCID identifiers, and corresponding-author details should be entered through the OJS submission system and should not appear in the anonymized manuscript submitted for peer review.

4. Biomedical Imaging and AI/ML Studies

For manuscripts involving artificial intelligence, machine learning, deep learning, computer vision, radiomics, or automated biomedical image analysis, authors should clearly report:

  • The source and characteristics of the dataset.
  • Sample size and inclusion/exclusion criteria.
  • Image acquisition modality and relevant technical parameters where applicable.
  • Pre-processing, segmentation, annotation, augmentation, and feature-extraction procedures.
  • Training, validation, and test-set procedures.
  • Model architecture and important hyperparameters.
  • Evaluation metrics and statistical analysis.
  • External validation, where available.
  • Potential sources of bias, class imbalance, and limitations.
  • Measures taken to support reproducibility and transparency.

Authors should avoid data leakage between training, validation, and test datasets and should clearly describe how independence between datasets was maintained.

5. Figures, Medical Images and Tables

  • Figures and tables should be numbered consecutively and cited in the manuscript.
  • Image quality should be sufficient to permit scientific interpretation.
  • Biomedical images should not be manipulated in a manner that could misrepresent the underlying data.
  • Any permitted image enhancement or processing should be applied consistently and described where scientifically relevant.
  • Patient-identifiable information must be removed from clinical images unless explicit consent for publication has been obtained.
  • Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted third-party material.

6. Research Ethics

Research involving human participants, patient information, clinical data, medical images, or biological materials must comply with applicable ethical and institutional requirements.

Where required, authors should provide the name of the approving ethics committee or institutional review board and the approval/reference number.

Informed consent should be obtained where applicable. Authors must protect patient confidentiality and privacy.

Research involving animals should comply with applicable institutional and national ethical standards.

7. Data Availability and Reproducibility

Authors should include a Data Availability Statement describing whether the data supporting the findings are publicly available, available on reasonable request, restricted for ethical or privacy reasons, or otherwise unavailable.

Where possible, authors are encouraged to provide sufficient information regarding datasets, software, code, model configuration, and analytical procedures to enable independent verification and reproducibility.

8. Competing Interests

Authors must disclose any financial, professional, personal, or other relationships that could reasonably be perceived as influencing the submitted work. Where no competing interests exist, this should be stated explicitly.

9. Funding

All sources of financial support should be disclosed, including the name of the funding organization and grant number where applicable. Where no external funding was received, authors may state this.

10. Generative Artificial Intelligence

Generative AI tools must not be listed as authors because they cannot take responsibility for the integrity, accuracy, or originality of scholarly work.

Authors remain fully responsible for all submitted content. Any substantive use of generative AI in manuscript preparation, analysis, coding, image generation, or other research processes should be transparently disclosed where applicable.

Generative AI must not be used to fabricate, falsify, or manipulate research data, results, references, medical images, or other scientific evidence.

11. References

Authors are responsible for ensuring that references are accurate, complete, relevant, and appropriately cited. Wherever possible, references should include persistent identifiers such as DOI links.

12. Copyright and Licensing

Authors retain copyright in their published work and grant the International Journal of Biomedical Image Intelligence and Prime Crest Publishers the right of first publication.

Articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0), which permits sharing and adaptation provided appropriate attribution is given, a link to the licence is provided, and any changes are indicated.

13. Submission

All manuscripts must be submitted through the IJBII online submission system. Authors should complete all required metadata and upload the appropriate manuscript and supplementary files.

Submission of a manuscript indicates that the authors have read and agreed to comply with the journal's editorial, peer-review, ethical, copyright, licensing, and publication policies.
